    • Online Play: The first in the series with online play via Nintendo Wi - Fi. Compete against other players' monster teams, win rewards like items or rare monsters.
    • Unique Encounter System: No random battles. Enemies are visible on the overworld. You can avoid them or attack from behind for an extra turn. Later, get the whistle ability to randomly encounter enemies.
    • Skill System: Based on the one from Dragon Quest VIII. Characters earn skill points at certain levels to assign to monsters' skill sets.
